Indie authors, a new website is being created to promote your novella (17,500-30,000 words). In this article, you'll find the requirements necessary for your work to be considered. More and more readers are looking for these quick reads that can be enjoyed in a few hours or less. Indie author novellas are claiming their place with this specific audience.
The new site where your review and book's details will be posted is a work in progress, so to get an idea of what your book's page will be like, visit Just Audiobook Reviews and look at the set up of the reviews.
Before you consider submitting your novella for promotion: understand that not all submissions will be accepted, so please read on.
My Selection Process:
Step one: When I decide to investigate a given book, I will start with a preview. If I find grammatical problems (GP), faulty dialogue mechanics (FDM), a weak story line (WSL) or other (OT), I won't read any further. An email will be sent to you that the book will not be reviewed by me. Your preview can be the opening chapter of your book located on your website as well as the various "Look inside this book" options provided by retailers.
Step Two: If I go so far as to acquire and to start reading the book and find that it is not satisfactorily written, I will stop reading it. An email will be sent to you that the book will not be reviewed by me. I am looking for novellas for which I can create a positive review. There is much negative criticism already circulating, concerning the writings of indie authors; I'm not going to contribute to that.
Step Three: If I find the book to be material for a good write up, an email will be sent confirming this. I will finish reading it and post your indie author novella review on its own individual page.
My acquisition of a copy of your book:
After you learn that your book is being considered for a Step Two evaluation, you will need to provide me with a free copy of it. I can read books on Kindle, as PDF's, or as printed copy. With Kindle and Smashwords, you can gift your book to me.
Important Note: However I acquire a free copy of the book, it must still pass Step Two of my Selection Guidelines and may not end up with a posted review.
For Step Three, I plan to read at least a couple of novellas a month. In a given month, I'll read books from different genres, unless I only have one genre from which to select. I'll read a book in its entirety and then write and post my review.
Additional Required Criteria for consideration of your book:
One: Book length - 17,500 to 30,000 words. Enter the word count of your book when you submit it.
Two: Book genre - List the genre and sub-genre of your book. (Presently I am not reading horror or erotica. In addition, I do not read books with excessive graphic violence. I also reserve the right not to read books that are unacceptable to me, personally, for whatever reason.]
Three: The book should be available for purchase at one or all of these three outlets: Smashwords, Indiebound, and Amazon.
Four: While it is not required, I strongly recommend that you get a book trailer for your novella. You can get a nice promotional trailer at fiverr.com for five bucks. If you expressly want one made by an American, follow these instructions.
1) Go to fiverr.com
2) Do a query for "book trailers."
3) On the query page, look for sellers who display an American flag next to their name. Their name and their flag are located on the right side beneath the description of their gig.
4) Be sure to check the feedback ratings and don't hesitate to ask questions. Most fiverrs let you give them your own words, images and choice of music. At the same time, they will gather all of this for you, depending on the seller. Most have samples of their work.
5) You can, of course, get a book trailer from anywhere you like or make your own.
6) Be sure to title your trailer with your book's title and your name: Just Audiobook Reviews by Kathy Golden. [This is an example of the format. The actual trailer is named after the website it is promoting; not after a book.]
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUBMIT:
One: Links to your book at one or all of these three sites: Smashwords, Indiebound, and Amazon. You need only provide one link to any one of these sites or you can include them all. The link/links must be to the exact page that your book is advertised on.
Two: The image URL of your book's cover. In order to provide that, do the following:
1. Do a right-mouse click on the book's image from whatever source you choose. If you have an image of your book on your website, use this as your source.
2. You will see the option to copy the image's URL.
3. Click on that option; then paste this URL link into the form below, right alone with the links to your book.
Test all of your links to make sure they are working. All links must be clickable, which means they need to have http:// in front of the web address. Example: http://www.yourwebsite.com.
Three: Type out the combined title of your book and author's name (e.g. Your Book by You); provide the word count and the book's genre and sub-genre. I know some of this is a duplicated request, but this information must be provided.
Four: The link to your trailer on YouTube, if you have one. Only YouTube trailers will be included in the review.
Five: A valid email address where I can reach you. I do not sell or share emails.
All of the above (except the book trailer) will need to be submitted before I begin at Step One with your book. You will need to provide all of your information at the same time. If you make a mistake or need to resubmit, resubmit all of your information. I will verify this info before I start Step One. If any of your information is incorrect, I will have to bypass the book.
You can copy and paste the submission info into the "My Book's Review" contact box at the end of this article and then fill in your information. Be sure to add a space or two between each entry.

Once I finish reading and am ready to post the review, I need to have all information at hand. If your book is not selected, your information will not be used for any purpose by me.
Your final review-page will have the book's cover and retailers' links on it, as well as the book trailer, if the trailer's link is given to me before I set up this page.
Again, if you need to see an idea of what this page will look like, visit www.justaudiobookreviews.com.
Once your book's page is set up, you will be notified via email with a link to that page. On the blog, website, and/or social media platform of your choice, you need to add this link with an explanation that a review of your book is available at the review site. You will then need to email me with the link to the site where you are advertising this book review.

That's it. If this new indie author novellas site is a place where you want to see if your book will be chosen for promotion, these are the requirements.
If you think you want to be considered for this opportunity, send me the requested details using the form below.
You can post any questions as a comment. If you have any private questions, use the contact form. Allow 48 hours for me to get back to you, either in response to a private question or to a posted one. Please read over the outline provided here as often as needed to make sure you understand it before asking questions about it. Thanks.
Should my schedule no longer allow me to continue this review service, those people, who have submitted their book's information and I didn't get a chance to do a Step One investigation of it, will be notified that this promotion is no longer available. Any Step Two or Step Three actions in progress will be completed and the authors notified of the outcome.
I realize that these requirements are exacting. However, creating review pages for individual book reviews is time-consuming. I've chosen individual pages so each author's work is in its own non-competitive spotlight. By supplying the requested information in the way that it is asked for, you assist in an efficient creation of your book's review page. There is no time allotted to search for missing information or to replace broken links with clickable ones, so please ensure that all your information is correct. Otherwise, your book will not be considered.
Thank you for visiting my blog and the best of success to you in all your writing endeavors.
